OUR MISSION

1- ... that no pet owner be forced to choose inadequate treatment or euthanasia for their animal because of inability to pay for emergency medical care.
2- ... that people who receive financial help for a veterinary emergency be given the opportunity to return their gift by becoming mentors, by volunteering for VEFM, or by supporting the VEFM fund financially.
3- ... that it is the responsibility of both the local pet-owning and veterinary communities to make emergency care available--that this is not a national responsibility but a grass-roots responsibility.
4-... that the vision of VEFM will extend to communities all across the United States, possibly even the world.

The Calendars are Ready !

Despite various printing challenges, the VEFM 2009 Calendar is finally ready. For any donation to VEFM of $20 or more, we will send you a calendar, with free shipping!. For orders of three or more calendars, the donation is $17 each, with free shipping.

In addition to pictures of pets, the calendar includes stories of animals who had close-calls, and information about toxic plants and household substances.

To donate (and to order calendars), go to our web site: www.vefm.org.

Thank you again for including Misty in your calendar. We just got some bad news, and Misty has CRF in her one remaining kidney. We are so worried about her. She is on fluids but has lost so much weight. If you have any suggestions or help for us to keep her well and comfortable longer, please let us know. We will go order a calendar now.
Thanks!
Deb (Misty's mom)

Is it ok if we put a link on our blog for your calendar? I would think it would be ok, but just want to ask before we do it.
Thanks,
Deb

Dear Deb,
Anybody who has a pet featured in the calendar gets one complimentary one, to show our appreciation. I'll go check your order on the web site, shortly. I am really sorry that Misty is ill again. A lot of cats with CRF that is not rapidly progressive can gain a lot of quality time by your administering the fluids subcutaneously, at home. Is that the kind of fluids you meant? Potassium and B-complex supplements often help muscle strength and energy. If her phosphorus is going up, a phosphorus binder, such as Alternagel, can help block phosphorus uptake from her food. The other general concept with cats and renal failure is that it is better to eat something than nothing. If she won't eat the special kidney diet, then add something that she will eat. Try rotating foods, too.

Deb, I signed your guest book and included a question. Since you get one free calendar for having a pet featured in it, do you want a refund on your donation, or do you want a second calendar?

Hi Lucy,
Thanks again for including Misty in your calendar. I had to help her to the Bridge on Monday morning. It was heartbreaking. I hope her story has helped your cause.
Thanks again,
Deb

Oh, Deb. I'm so sorry. I am glad she got her chance at immortality. She was a beautiful girl.
